About Us "Thundering Three"
The California High School Rodeo Association (CHSRA) is open to any high school student enrolled in a
California High School. Founded in 1970, the organization is dedicated to building sportsmanship,
horsemanship and character in our youth. CHSRA is a family organization and family participation. CHSRA
was created to give high school students the opportunity to participate and compete in this unique and
challenging sport. Although not recognized by high school athletics, the CHSRA offers a program that sets
high school rodeo apart from other high school varsity sports on a level comparable to collegiate and
professional rodeo competitors.
CHSRA is a member of the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA) and operates according to the
NHSRA rulebook. CHSRA has approximately 900 members in nine districts. Student members must maintain
a minimum 2.0 grade point average and must have passing grades in all subjects.
CHSRA is an independent student athletic association governing itself without supervision of school
administrations or assistance from tax dollars. Members are fully insured, supervised and guided by adult
experts. Competitors have the opportunity to earn scholarships for post-secondary education.
